I consider myself an apprentice by profession.
Not because I lack experience — but because I believe we never stop learning. Not about ourselves. Not about others. Not about the world around us.
Photography, for me, is a way of studying that relationship.
I am Bryan “Yapi” Mora, an artist and photographer based in San José, Costa Rica. Through Yapi Fotos, I work with performers, travelers, creatives, and individuals who want images that feel intentional and alive.
My life revolves around images.
Observing them.
Creating them.
Analyzing them.
Letting them breathe.
Whether through drawing, music, stillness, or photography, I have always been drawn to the quiet tension between a person and the environment they inhabit.
San José is layered. It is not loud in the way beaches are loud. It is textured, emotional, complex. That complexity inspires me.
I don’t believe in forced posing.
I don’t believe in over-editing.
I believe in empathy.
Empathy is the foundation of harmony — and harmony is what I seek when I compose an image.
Plants.
Music.
Blue tones.
Silence.
Natural light.
These are elements I return to again and again.
When you book a session, we are not manufacturing a persona. We are exploring who you are in this moment.
As a photographer in San José, Costa Rica, I focus on:
• Artist & Performer Portraits
• Actor Headshots
• Theater Headshots
• Personal Branding Photography
• Editorial Portraiture
• Travel & Solo Sessions
I often work with English-speaking performers, expats, digital nomads, and local artists seeking thoughtful, professional imagery.
If you are looking for a headshot photographer in San José who values collaboration and atmosphere, you are in the right place.
San José is a city that reveals itself slowly.
The light shifts quickly.
The streets change tone depending on the hour.
The mountains hold the city in a quiet frame.
Being based in San José, Costa Rica allows me to create work that blends:
Urban texture
Historic architecture
Minimal interiors
Tropical light
Mountain horizons
The city becomes part of the portrait.
Every session begins with conversation.
Who are you right now?
What chapter are you in?
What do you want these images to communicate?
I guide, but I do not control.
I shape light, but I do not overpower presence.
The goal is clarity — not perfection.
If you are an actor, musician, dancer, drag performer, or artist, your image is part of your craft.
Headshots and portraits should reflect:
Strength
Vulnerability
Precision
Depth
Whether you need actor headshots in Costa Rica or conceptual portraits that feel layered and intentional, we approach the session with focus and care.
I return to this idea often: apprentice.
Photography is not something I have “arrived” at. It is something I continue to study.
The world changes.
People evolve.
Light behaves differently every day.
The work grows because I grow.
